Dr. Joel Carwile
I was saved and baptized as an 8 year old boy at Shanghai Baptist Church in Limestone county. My mom was very influential in my decision to accept Christ. My dad did not get saved until many years later. I had a very emotional rededication to Christ when I was 17 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. It was there that I was called to preach but did not follow through with that calling until I was 24 years old. On January 15, 2017, I celebrated my 28th year in the preaching ministry.
How long have you been in full time ministry? How long have you been at FBC?
As of January of 2017, I celebrated 28 years in the ministry and have been at First Baptist Church since August of 2015.
Favorite Bible Verse?
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Interesting, not so well known, fact about yourself.
Jo and I experienced the blessing of delivering our baby girl in the front seat of our car while driving to the hospital. We never stopped the car. Miracles still happen. Jo is my hero.
Favorite food or restaurant?
Jo and our family really enjoy going to Outback Steakhouse. Zeke loves chocolate shakes from Jack’s. Dani loves chicken from Zaxby’s.
Favorite Sports team
We are Auburn and Tennessee Titan fans. While we lived in Louisville, we pulled for both Louisville and Kentucky. Much to the chagrin of those diehard fans. We also enjoyed Cincinnati Red’s baseball. Since we are back home, we pull for the Atlanta Braves.
I really enjoy challenging myself running 5K events with my son Zeke. In 2016, I ran my first obstacle course race (BattleFrog). As I get older, I enjoy anything that physically challenges me.
Favorite Vacation Spot-been to or want to go to
Our family loves the beach, especially Fort Morgan, right outside of Gulf Shores.
I want to visit and study in Israel and would love to vacation with Jo in Hawaii then Australia.
Favorite Old Testament story or character
I am a big Moses fan. His life and ministry are great examples to follow. He appeared to finish well and prepared his successor. I would love the privilege to do that same.
My beautiful wife Elizabeth Jo Ellen Mahan Carwile, children Zeke and Dani, make up Team Carwile. We are ALL IN……..
