Bro. David Carter

CHILDREN
AND YOUNG FAMILIES PASTOR

My responsibilities cover the nurturing and wellbeing of children from Birth to Sixth Grade and the encouragement of their parents to help them come to Know, Love and Serve Jesus Christ.

About Me:

My journey as a Christian started when I was fifteen, right before entering my sophomore year of high school. After attending every summer student activity at church we finished with a Back to School Retreat. Around a camp fire our Student Pastor shared what Jesus went through to die on the cross for my sins. When asked if I wanted to confess my sins and TRUST Jesus to be the Lord of my life, I responded to God’s call. The following year, while attending a Student Camp at Shocco Springs, God called me to minister to teenagers and children.

How long have you been in full time ministry?
In 1982, while attending college in Charleston, South Carolina, Deerpark Baptist Church gave me my first opportunity as a Minister to Students. For the last 29 years God has allowed us to serve in various ministries, such as; to help create the Hosanna Drama Ministry, serve as the Guntersville Fellowship of Christian Athletes Director, serve as the President of Expectation Ministries directing The Big G.I.G. Student Conferences, as well as serving as Children & Student Pastor at Heritage Baptist in Huntsville, First Baptist Grant and Dogwood Community Church in Decatur prior to First Baptist Athens when I was called here in October 2006.

Favorite Bible Verse?
My favorite Bible verses would be John 3:16, Mark 12:29-30, Colossians 3:23, just to name a few.

Interesting, not so well known, fact about yourself.
Chances are your children may know me as The Storyman. This passion of mine started when I began reading for my girls’ elementary school. This is a great volunteer opportunity at local and North Alabama elementary schools when asked, using a creative and dramatic approach to read books and tell stories. Because of my struggles reading as a young boy, I want to help kids desire to read.

Favorite food or restaurant?
My wife and daughters’ cooking is incredible. My mom’s Turkey & Dressing is an all-time favorite. I love Seafood, Mexican, Steak, BBQ, a mess of fileted fish or a Ham and Vegetable Plate. To wash any of it down with Mountain Dew or an Arnold Palmer is the best.

Favorite Sports team
The Alabama Crimson Tide.

Hobbies
Some of my interests and hobbies include: Fishing, Cycling, Photography, Woodworking, Scuba Diving, Gardening and cheering on The Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team.

Favorite Vacation Spot-been to or want to go to
The Carters LOVE the Beach, with Destin, Florida being our favorite. Australia and the Great Barrier Reef is the most interesting place I have traveled.

Favorite Old Testament story or character
That would be the life of Joseph or David.

Family Life
I have been married to my amazing wife, Renee’, since 1988 and we have three beautiful daughters, Haley, Hannah and Hope.
